A Letter From Chi Omega

There’s singing, bouncing and clapping, sweaty coffee filters, and all the mints you could ever want. It’s sorority recruitment. Hi, my name is Carley Boyce and I’m the

president of Chi Omega. Congratulations on signing up for sorority recruitment at LSU! This is truly one of the most rewarding and exciting experiences you can partake in. I’m so grateful for my experience and I’m sure you will be too!

“PARTY STARTS”…. I remember jumping as I heard those words screamed all down the row. I walked into my first house shaking as if I was walking into a haunted house. My heart was beating outside my chest and I was so nervous. But after about five minutes my nerves went away and I realized I was just talking to a girl, just a little older than me about Netflix and tanning. I was so nervous all for a conversation about Netflix and tanning. It was actually pretty fun so at your first house try to remember that this isn’t a job interview or the ACT or something else that makes you scared for your life. It’s just talking. Of course you’ll be nervous and that’s okay, but don’t let those nerves take away from your experience and your decision. Take a deep breathe and worst comes to worst strike up a conversation about Netflix because who doesn’t love that?

I don’t know about you but I’m probably the most indecisive person out there. I have a hard time trying to decide what to eat so of course I figured choosing a sorority house would probably be one of the hardest decisions I’d ever have to make, right up there with choosing a wedding dress. I hoped I would have some sort of epiphany…. Unfortunately that doesn’t really happen. I didn’t see XO in the clouds or see a cardinal with some straw in its mouth. After preference I thought about the houses and I remembered someone telling me choose the house you can’t imagine running past on Bid Day. I walked past Chi Omega and remembered how comfortable and happy the Chi Omega women made me feel. I remembered how genuine my conversations were and how the women treated each other. I could really see the sisterhood and it was

something that I truly wanted to be a part of. I realized there was no way I could run past Chi Omega on Bid Day. So instead, I ran towards it. Now I am proud to say not only am I a member of Chi Omega but I am also privileged to lead and give back to this group of incredible women, who have supported me and helped me to be my best self. These women have brought out my best qualities and have supported me throughout my years at LSU. They have made my college experience what it is today and looking back I can’t imagine what my time at LSU would be like without Chi Omega.

Sorority recruitment is exhausting and full of mixed emotions, but also so rewarding once it is over. During recruitment, things might not go your way or maybe they go your way, but not your best friend’s. Trust me, at the end of the week everything works

out. My biggest piece of advice to you is that it’s okay to be a little selfish during this week because recruitment really is all about YOU. I had my turn and so did every other Greek woman you will meet down the row and now it’s your turn. So go where you feel the most comfortable and the most like yourself. Go where you can’t imagine running past on Bid Day. Go where you will be happiest spending YOUR four years!

Good luck and get ready for an experience you’ll never forget! See you soon!
