A Letter From Kappa Delta

Hey Potential Members!! I hope everyone is having a great summer and is getting ready for recruitment! I am so excited for each and every one of you, because you are about to take a step into something that is so much bigger than yourself. Recruitment

will be an unforgettable experience that you will always cherish no matter where it leads you.

I vividly remember anxiously awaiting the start of my freshman year and the beginning of a new chapter in my life. I remember thinking about the possibility of going through recruitment and being very unsure, because I never though of myself as the "typical sorority girl" or someone who would even enjoy "sorority life." So I was hesitant to participate at first, but through the encouragement of friends and family I decided to give it a try. So, I turned in all the paperwork, gathered all of my recommendation letters, and began the recruitment process.

I remember the feeling of receiving my very first party list, wondering what in the world I had gotten myself into. However, I was determined to keep an open mind. As I went from party to party I was greeted with hundreds of girls smiling, clapping, and singing, and still, I was very unsure about the experience. However, as I continued to go through rush I had so many wonderful encounters, and made so many friends up and down the row and within my Gamma Chi group! As I walked into each house and had conversations with he girls inside, I felt a sense of comfort because all of the stereotypes I had once known about "sorority girls" began to fade away. Every conversation I had was different from the next, and with each conversation I met a new friend. I began to learn more about recruitment, sorority life, and even what it's like to be an LSU student. Throughout the week of recruitment I went from being unsure about the entire process to hoping that one of the houses down the row would soon be my home. The recruitment process became an experience that I will never forget and that I will forever be thankful for, because it led me to where I am today.

After a short and very fast paced week of recruitment, Kappa Delta quickly became my home away from home. From the moment I stepped onto the lawn on Bid Day, I began to make unforgettable friendships that would mold me into the person I am today. I began to learn more about myself. I realized the people who surrounded my wanted to make me better and continuously lift me up. I loved Kappa Delta and I loved what it had begun to do for me as an individual. I loved the meaning of friendship it revealed to me, and I loved the sense of empowerment it provided me by empowering others through our philanthropy. I loved the motivation it gave me to do well, and I appreciated the constant accountability. Eventually, I felt the need to give back to the place that had already given me so much. I decided to get involved serving on various committees throughout Kappa Delta, but never did I think that one day I would become the chapter president!

My short time as chapter president has shown me even more about myself than before! It has revealed to me what all of the bouncing, clapping, and hard work during recruitment is all about. It's about a group of girls who come together and work rigorously for weeks, and even months to make your recruitment process the best it can be. It's about carrying on the legacy of something so great. We love our organization and what it stand's for. We work so hard because we care about you and your experience as a potential member of LSU Greek Life. LSU has so many amazing

sororities, and we want you to find your place just like we found ours.

My biggest piece of advice to offer you, not only a potential member, but also an

incoming college student, is to always keep an open mind and an open heart. Don't fret over the small things and stay true to yourself. Don't let anyone tell you whom you should or shouldn't be. You are the best YOU! I hope all of you have a wonderful recruitment experience and that you find your home away from home!
