A Letter From Delta Gamma
To say recruitment is a strange process is a bit of an understatement. Believe it or not, standing in straight lines outside of mansions while dabbing your head with coffee filters and having girls you’ve never met stuff altoids down your mouth can be a bit weird. I’ll never forget my first ice-water party; I felt like I had been baking in the sun for two hours waiting around when all of the sudden gamma chi’s simultaneously screamed “PARTY STARTS!” The doors flew open, and girls were bouncing, clapping, and singing. The first thing that came to my mind was “Oh geez, I feel like I’m entering the Hunger Games”. After getting through the first party I settled down and realized there was absolutely nothing to worry about, because at the end of the day recruitment is simply just talking and connecting with new people. So there is no need to be nervous!
I was one of those weirdos that enjoyed high school. I had attended an all-girl high school, and I was in search for a sorority that replicated the feeling of sisterhood I had found at my high school. Although I loved my hometown; I saw college as an opportunity to grow and meet new people. During the week it’s easy to fall into the trap of listening to what others are saying and doing, but at the end of the day the decision is solely yours. By the end of my process I was completely torn. I had never really had a clarifying aha-moment. Lucky for me I met a girl on the bus who knew I was struggling to make a decision. She posed the question, “where would you feel most comfortable hanging out in Nike shorts and a t-shirt while eating pizza?” My mind immediately jumped to DG. Moral of the story is, if you have a tough decision to make think of pizza and let it guide the way. (;
Recruitment week is full of hard decisions, growth, and inevitably new beginnings. Personally, I enjoyed the recruitment process, but I was nervous I would make the
wrong choice. For me there was never a clear cut reason to go DG, but it was a feeling. That feeling was the sense of home and comfort. I can say with confidence that DG is my home, a place where I've met best friends and had countless memories. LSU is so fortunate to have a strong PHC community, and my hope is that every girl that goes through recruitment is able to find what Delta Gamma has been for me.
Beyond excited for you!
