Philanthropy Spotlight: Days for Girls

Imagine living a life where you are forced out of work or school for one week a month.

Imagine living a life where your daily life is affected simply because you are a woman and your body is going through a natural process.

For many women, this imaginary life is their reality.

In many countries there are women and girls who do not have access to the proper feminine products. Often, when women in these countries have their periods, their daily lives are effected. Without access to the proper products or disposal capabilities, these women may find themselves out of school or work for the week.

This semester the LSU Panhellenic Community is partnering with Days for Girls in order to provide women and girls with access to feminine hygiene products.

It is Days for Girls and LSU Panhellenic's mission to provide these women with the opportunities they deserve. "Every girl. Everywhere. Period."

"Days for Girls is committed to supporting a girl throughout her entire lifecycle, from providing her with a DfG Kit, to teaching her health education, to offering training for her when she grows older, so that she can produce DfG Kits and support hygiene needs in her community." -DfG website

The Panhellenic community will join together on April 23rd to pack DfG Kits. These kits include products that help women get through their menstrual cycle without missing out on their daily lives.

So, how can you help?

Collect materials needed to make DfG kits and drop them in the box at your chapter house. Here's what we need:

-Girl's panties size 10, 12, 14, 16 (most needed)

-Women's panties size 6 (no animals, people, insect, camouflage, etc. They need to be dark or bright colors, avoiding whites. A few whites come in most packs and we will dye these)

-Washcloths - dark or bright colors (don't buy expensive ones because they add too much weight and take longer to dry)

-Ziploc brand one-gallon zipper freezer bags

-Hotel-sized bars of soap
