What I Would Tell 13-Year-Old Me
Ah, adolescence. You can still smell the overwhelming scent of Hollister perfume and Axe body spray wafting through the middle school hallways. A blur of braces, questionable fashion choices (seriously...WHAT were we thinking back then?), and awkward gangly teens flashes before your eyes.
As women in college, we feel powerful and more grown-up then ever before (face it, we're close to #adulting and facing #realworldprobs).
But, it wasn't that long ago that we were the unfortunately awkward 13-year-olds wandering the hallways of middle school.
Do you ever wish you could go back in time and tell yourself what you know now? (hmm...sounds like a Taylor Swift song to me). Maybe you could have saved yourself from that cringe-worthy Facebook post or the heartbreak of your first breakup. Who knows, maybe you'd just tell yourself how awesome you'll turn out to be.
We asked the ladies of LSU's Panhellenic community what THEY would tell themselves at age 13.
"Unfortunately, the Jonas brothers won't make it to the year 3000....
(or the year 2017 for that matter)" -Kendra Ventura
*A moment of silence for the amount of money spent on JoBro concert tickets *
"Those name brands don't matter or make you look any better than the people who don't wear them!!" -Rachel Green
"Don't agree to "date" a boy when he asks you out over gmail chat" -Shea Moreau
"Cargo capris were/are never okay" -Alexis Latour
"Don't worry, the BK Chicken Fries will come back." -Abby Sticker
"You won't be awkward forever, one day you'll have unlimited text messages, that guy you're crying over isn't that important, the song "cyclone" will be a bop forever so go ahead and buy it on iTunes, stop wearing those Aeropostale polos you look ridiculous, you're not fat, do yourself a favor and just delete your myspace because people will find it" -Sarah Carpentar
"The bangs are a bad idea and lipstick and braces are not a good look" -Alexandra Larsen
"Go ahead and try out for everything. Whatever interests you, don't let fear hold you back from trying. Whether it's student council, sports, dance, cheer, theater. You'll find out you are more capable of doing much bigger things than you thought you could." -Catherine Colvin
As you reflect on the girl we were at age 13, it is important to remember that everyone
had those same cringe-worthy moments that you've tried to forget about. But, the girl you were then helped you to become the amazing woman you are today. You wouldn't be you without her! So don't delete the embarrassing photos just yet, embrace your inner 13-year-old and be thankful for growing up into the amazing person you are today.
